Willo alternative: follow-up questions instead of one-way answers

11/3/2026 • 4 min read

Willo is one of the more transparent async screening tools. You can pay £49 per live role per month, or go annual from £2,999 a year, and candidates can answer by video, audio or text.

But every answer is still a one-way recording. When a candidate says “I’m very customer-focused” and stops, nobody asks “What did you do the last time a customer shouted at you?” You find out on the phone screen, after you have already spent the time.

The short version

  • Format: Willo candidates record answers to fixed questions. Greet candidates talk to an AI that responds and asks follow-ups.
  • Scoring: Willo reviewers mention limited scoring customisation. Greet scores against blocks you write yourself.
  • Billing: Willo charges per live role. Greet charges per completed session, across as many roles as you like.

What Willo is

Willo is candidate screening software from Glasgow. Candidates answer your questions asynchronously by video, audio or text, and Willo adds AI summaries and shortlisting on top. It is popular with UK agencies, small businesses and mid-market teams.

Credit where due: pricing is public, the pay-as-you-go option suits agencies with changing workloads, letting candidates pick their format is kind, and its integrations list is good.

Where it falls short

From its own site and G2 reviews:

  • No live follow-ups. Answers are recorded one-way, so a thin answer stays thin.
  • Review time at volume. Reviewers mention hours spent watching videos when a role gets busy, and limited control over how candidates are scored.
  • Invites in spam. Some reviews say invitation emails land in candidates’ spam folders.

What Greet does instead

A conversation that pushes on weak answers

The Greet AI speaks, listens and reacts. If a candidate is vague, it asks for an example. If they get the facts wrong, it can press on that. You get the version of the answer you would have got on a phone screen, without doing the phone screen.

Scenarios, not just questions

You can give the AI a part to play. For a recruitment agency filling a call centre, it can be a customer chasing a refund. For a dental practice, a patient who wants to cancel at short notice. Each session holds up to 10 questions or scenarios, and every candidate faces the same ones.

Scoring you write

Assessment blocks are yours: knowledge, communication, English level, problem-solving, or a block for “follows the refund policy”. Greet scores them from the dialogue, the answers, and the audio or video, and adds a written summary, the transcript and the recording. If you disagree with a score, play back the moment it came from.

The link goes where you send it

Share one link in a job ad, an SMS or your own email, or import a CSV and send each candidate a unique link. Candidates start whenever they like from a browser or phone. Greet can also call applicants by phone, which helps when your best applicants do not check email.

Which one to pick

Pick Willo if you are an agency with a steady flow of roles, you like candidates choosing between video, audio and text, and your team is happy to review answers.

Pick Greet if you hire for roles where the job is talking (support, sales, front desk, billing), and you want the first round to probe weak answers and arrive scored.

Try it on one role

  1. Take the Willo role that gets the most applicants.
  2. Turn your best question into a scenario the AI can act out.
  3. Press Play and take it yourself.
  4. Send it to this week’s applicants and compare the shortlist with what you would have picked.

Create your Greet account and run it on one role.
