TestGorilla alternative: a live spoken scenario, not a test battery

11/3/2026 • 4 min read

TestGorilla has a big test library and a free tier, which makes it easy to send a cognitive test and a role quiz to every applicant. You get a percentile back, and a ranked list.

What you do not get is how the person sounds when a customer pushes back. Most of the tests are multiple-choice or timed tasks, and the video questions are one-way recordings. For support, sales, billing or front desk roles, the conversation is the job, and a test battery does not include one.

The short version

  • Format: TestGorilla tests are mostly multiple-choice and timed tasks. Greet is a spoken scenario where the AI plays the customer and follows up.
  • Candidate time: TestGorilla batteries can get long. A Greet session is 5 to 30 minutes, and you pick the length.
  • Price: TestGorilla has a free tier and paid plans from about $215/month. Greet is $99/month for 100 sessions.

What TestGorilla is

TestGorilla, based in Amsterdam, is a skills-testing platform with a large library of tests (cognitive, personality, language, software and role-specific), one-way video questions, and a sourcing product. Its customers range from small businesses to enterprises that want tests before interviews.

It does that well. The library is large and well known, the pricing is published with a free tier, and it is a solid way to check knowledge and reasoning across many roles.

Where it falls short

From its pricing page and public material:

  • No live conversation. Tests are mostly multiple-choice or timed tasks, so they do not show how someone handles a real exchange.
  • Long batteries. Candidates can face several tests in a row, which can hurt completion rates.
  • One-way video. Video questions are recordings, so nobody asks a follow-up.

What Greet does instead

The test is a conversation

You write up to 10 scenarios or questions, and the AI plays a role from the job. A customer who was charged twice. A patient confused about a bill. A prospect who says your price is too high. The AI listens, pushes back, and asks a follow-up when an answer is thin. A multiple-choice question asks what the right move is. This shows whether the candidate can make it.

One short session instead of a battery

Pick 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes (10 needs Pro; 15 and 30 need Enterprise). Candidates start from a browser or phone whenever they want. They can type if they cannot talk, and Push to Talk helps in noisy rooms.

You choose what gets scored

Define the assessment blocks: knowledge, communication, English level, problem-solving, or anything specific to the role. Greet scores them from the dialogue and audio, and returns a match rate, summary, transcript and recording (Pro and above). Turn on Block Copy & Paste or Camera Required if you worry about outside help.

Use both if you like

Greet does not replace a cognitive or coding test. Many roles need both. Run TestGorilla for the knowledge check, and send the top scorers a Greet link to hear how they handle the work out loud. Export Greet results as CSV or PDF to put them side by side.

Which one to pick

Pick TestGorilla if you need standard tests for cognitive ability, software or coding across many roles, or you want to start on a free tier.

Pick Greet if the role is mostly talking to people, and you want to hear candidates handle a real situation, not pick the right answer from four.

Try it on one role

  1. Pick a customer-facing role where test scores and real performance often disagree.
  2. Write the conversation your best person has every day.
  3. Take the session yourself with Play.
  4. Send it to this week’s applicants, or to your top TestGorilla scorers.

Create your Greet account and run it on one role.
