Tengai alternative: job role-plays and a price you can see
Tengai was one of the first AI interviewers. It runs structured, competency-based screening interviews and hands recruiters a ranked shortlist.
Competency questions sound like this: “Tell me about a time you handled a difficult customer.” They reward people who tell good stories. If the job is handling difficult customers all day, there is a more direct test: give the candidate the difficult customer and see what happens. And to find out what Tengai costs, you book a demo first.
The short version
- What it asks: Tengai asks structured competency questions. Greet can do that too, and can also have the AI play the customer, patient or caller so the candidate handles a real situation.
- Price: Tengai is quoted after a demo. Greet is $99/month for 100 sessions, listed on the site.
- Setup: Tengai starts with a sales conversation. Greet starts with a sign-up and a one-line description of the role.
What Tengai is
Tengai is a Stockholm company that runs automated screening interviews with an AI interviewer on video, then scores the answers and ranks candidates. Its customers are mostly mid-sized and large employers in the Nordics and the rest of Europe.
It has real strengths. Structured competency interviews support fair, consistent screening, it has long experience in the Nordic market, and ranked shortlists save recruiters time.
Where it falls short
From its own site and a third-party review:
- No public pricing or self-serve plan. You need a demo before you see a number.
- Fixed interview structure. There is less room to build role-plays specific to your job.
- Competency questions over practical tasks. It asks about past behaviour more than it tests the work itself.
What Greet does instead
The interview can be the job
Write the scenario and the AI plays it. For a support role: a customer whose subscription renewed without warning. For a clinic front desk: a patient who needs a same-day appointment you do not have. For a collections role: a caller who disputes the debt. The AI reacts to what the candidate actually says and keeps the situation going.
Your questions, your rubric
Each session holds up to 10 questions or scenarios that you write, mixed however you like. Scoring comes from assessment blocks you define, such as knowledge, communication, English level or problem-solving. You are not fitting your role into someone else’s competency framework.
A price on the page
Pro is $99 a month for 100 completed sessions. Enterprise is $200 a month for 500 and adds 15 and 30 minute sessions. You can start on one role this week and stop if it does not fit.
Every score comes with the evidence
Each session returns a match rate, a written summary, the transcript and the recording. If a ranking surprises you, play the moment it came from. Turn on Camera Required if you want video; leave it off for voice-only roles.
Training on the same scenarios
After you hire, the same role-plays become practice. New starters rehearse the hard calls with the AI, and you follow their scores in the same dashboard.

Which one to pick
Pick Tengai if you are a Nordic employer that wants structured competency interviews from an established local vendor, or you need interviews in Swedish.
Pick Greet if your roles are phone or customer-facing, you hire in English (common for remote and international teams) or another language Greet supports, and you want to test the work and see the price before you talk to anyone.
Try it on one role
- Pick the role where “tell me about a time” answers tell you the least.
- Replace one competency question with a scenario the AI plays.
- Press Play and take the interview yourself.
- Send the link to applicants and read the scores.
Create your Greet account and run it on one role.
