HireVue alternative: AI voice screening from $99 a month, no sales call
HireVue is the name most people think of for video interviews. It is also, per G2, an Essentials plan from $35,000 a year, and a format where candidates record answers to a webcam that never talks back.
If you are a large enterprise with a procurement team, that may be fine. If you are hiring ten billing specialists a month, it is a lot of money to spend before you have screened anyone.
The short version
- Price: HireVue is quote-only, from about $35,000/year per G2. Greet is $99/month for 100 sessions, listed on the site.
- Format: HireVue candidates record answers to fixed questions. Greet candidates talk to an AI that listens, follows up and plays a role from the job.
- Start: HireVue starts with a demo. Greet starts with a link you can send today.
What HireVue is
HireVue, based in South Jordan, Utah, is one of the oldest video interview companies. It sells one-way (on-demand) and live video interviews, game-based and coding assessments, and scheduling automation, mostly to large enterprises running campus and hourly hiring at scale.
It does that well. It has a long track record, deep enterprise ATS integrations, and one contract that covers video, assessments and scheduling.
Where it falls short
From its own site and public reviews:
- The price shuts out smaller teams. Pricing is not published. G2 lists the entry tier at $35,000 a year.
- Candidates find one-way video cold. G2 reviewers mention the format feeling impersonal, plus friction around rescheduling.
- You buy it like enterprise software. Expect a sales cycle before you can try it on a single role.
What Greet does instead
It tests the job, not the answer to “tell me about yourself”
A recorded answer tells you how someone talks about work. Greet puts them in the work. For a billing role, the AI plays a patient calling about a surprise balance. For a front desk role, it plays an upset caller who wants a same-day appointment. You write the scenario once, and every candidate gets the same one.
Candidates have a conversation
The AI speaks, listens, and asks follow-up questions when an answer is thin. Candidates start whenever they want from a browser or phone, with no slot to book. Greet can also call applicants by phone. Whether the camera must stay on is your setting.
You get a score you can check
Every session returns a score against the criteria you chose (knowledge, communication, English level, anything you define), a written summary, the full transcript and the recording. If a score looks wrong, you can listen to the exact moment. Turn on Camera Required or Block Copy & Paste when cheating is a concern.
Setup takes minutes
Describe the role and AI drafts the instructions, questions and scoring. Press Play to take the interview yourself, then share the link or import a CSV of candidates. Connect your ATS (Greenhouse, Workday, BambooHR, Workable, Teamtailor, Bullhorn and more) when you want to, not before.
It keeps working after the hire
The same scenarios become training. A new hire can practise the hard calls with the AI before they take a real one, and you can see their scores improve in the same dashboard.

Which one to pick
Pick HireVue if you are a large enterprise that wants video interviews, coding tests and scheduling from one vendor, and a five-figure contract is normal for you.
Pick Greet if you hire in volume for phone, support, front desk, billing or other roles where how someone handles a real situation matters more than a polished recorded answer, and you want to see results this week.
Try it on one role
- Pick the role with the most applicants.
- Write the situation your best person handles every day.
- Take the interview yourself with Play.
- Send the link to this week’s applicants and read the scores.
